Pacific Sleep Program

Pioneering solutions for sleep disorders longer than anyone else in the region.


1980: Dr. Rich is medical director of sleep center at Johns Hopkins Hospital.

1981: Dr. Rich establishes the 1st sleep disorders program in the region at Good Samaritan Hospital in Portland. It becomes the regionís 1st fully accredited sleep disorders center.

1983: Dr. Rich begins regular assessment visits to evaluate sleep centers applying for accreditation by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

1984: Dr. Rich becomes the 1st specialist in the Portland area to achieve board certification by the American Board of Sleep Medicine.

1992: Dr. Rich is among a select group of specialists to testify at hearings for the National Commission on Sleep Disorders Research, which culminates in the creation of the National Center for Sleep Disorders Research (part of the National Institutes of Health).

1993: Dr. Rich begins four years as member of the Governmental Affairs Committee, American Academy of Sleep Medicine

1995: Dr. Rich establishes Pacific Sleep Program as the 1st fully independent specialty sleep medicine practice in the Northwest. Pacific Sleep Program is the 1st private sleep medicine practice in the area to offer computerized diagnostic sleep testing.

1996: Dr. Rich leads AASM delegation to educate Congressional lawmakers about sleep disorders.

1997: Pacific Sleep Program becomes the 1st independent sleep medicine practice in the area to be fully accredited by the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Dr. Rich begins four years as a member of the Accreditation Committee, American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

2004: Dr. Rich becomes a member of the Health Policy Committee, American Academy of Sleep Medicine.

2005: Dr. Rich becomes the 1st official spokesperson in the Northwest for the American Academy of Sleep Medicine ‚ and one of only 15 in the entire U.S. Dr. Rich becomes a lifetime member of the National Sleep Foundation.

2006: Dr. Rich is appointed Vice Chairman of the Health Policy Committee of the American Academy of Sleep Medicine. Pacific Sleep Program opens its new, ultra-modern sleep center. The 1st of its kind in the area, this center is designed to provide the utmost in patient comfort while ensuring accurate, comprehensive diagnosis and treatment. Pacific Sleep Program becomes the 1st and only sleep medicine practice in the Portland area to provide an online system that allows primary care physicians to refer, order tests and track patient progress anytime, anywhere ‚ in just minutes.
